is an original evening-length offering by Shanzell Page
that unfolds through tap dance, live music, libation, and Black vernacular practice.
Developed during Page's 2025–26 residency with the University Musical Society and the University of Michigan-Flint, the eight-part chronicle considers cultivation as a process forged by circumstance, responsibility, and transformation. Moving between improvisation and composition, the offering gives reverence to jazz, gospel, and social dance traditions, and the ongoing conversation between rhythm and lived experience. This iteration takes shape across a period of grief, transition, and reorientation. This offering does not aim to resolve these states, but to move through them.
Premiered in Flint, Michigan in April 2026, Seeds & Fruit brings together dancers, musicians, and community collaborators in a work that honors lineage while making space for new possibilities to emerge.
